Navajo, Hopi and Zuni Pins
Most pins here are Navajo work, from stamped silver designs to stone-set brooches with handmade bezels. The collection also includes a Hopi pin and a Zuni pin, traditions known for overlay and for fine stone inlay. Learn more in our guides to Navajo jewelry, Hopi jewelry and Zuni jewelry.
Metals and Stones
All pins in this category are sterling silver. Many are plain silverwork, and some are set with turquoise, coral, black onyx, spiny oyster, mother of pearl or abalone, sometimes several stones in one design. The product page names the stones used.
Pin or Pendant
Most pieces are a modest size that sits neatly on a lapel or scarf. A few listings also give a pendant size, meaning the piece can be worn on a chain as well as pinned; the product page gives the size and says how it is worn. Wear a pin on a lapel, scarf, hat band or jacket. Some listings show a representative photo, so the piece you receive may vary slightly in stone color and pattern.
How to Check Authenticity
Authentic Native American work is made by an enrolled member of a recognized tribe, and selling imitations as Indian-made is illegal under the Indian Arts and Crafts Act. Look for an artist hallmark, a sterling stamp where the metal is silver, and paperwork naming the maker. Our hallmarks guide explains what the stamps mean, and all pins here include an original certificate of authenticity.
Caring for Your Pin
Fasten the clasp before storing the pin so the needle does not scratch other pieces. Wipe the silver with a soft jewelry cloth, keep stones away from water and perfume, and store the pin in a pouch. A sterling pin makes a thoughtful gift that is easy to wear with a coat, scarf or hat.
